Entrance to Paradise

Entrance to paradise -
   the gate blocked by some
    broke down vehicle.
Drivers swear at it,
   looks like we'll be here for hours.
Drop a dime,
   lose your sense of security;
Our eyes train on the small
   disclaimer:
    "Warning: only good people
    may enter."
We turn around and head home.

Taking handouts

Greedily we take those handouts of
   sympathy -
The hesitation can be deadly -
I just can't get over the fact
   that people don't care.
Never trusting a soul
   to reveal the truth -
They control our conscience
   but we can't figure out how -
Our sorrow turns to apathy
   and the path twists yet again.
