Crooked Arrow

Familiar fear

Armor - thick as steel;
   Fragile heart hidden
   away from harm's way.
My walls seem inpenetrable -
   yet we look over our
   shoulder every second.
Why do we fear the familiar,
   when the unknown is so scary.
The definition of fear is just
   something we don't want to face.
Drawn inside some
   unknown reality -
Change brought about
   by only strong force.
A distancing -
   unexplained;
bittersweet,
   but we must move on....

inexact fear

going down,
   seeing all dreams as deceptions,
creating an inexact fear,
a fear that doesn't want to leave,
   no words,
     just deadly silence,
can you see the pain
   deep in my eyes?
masking most of what we are
   under thick skin -
the sword of fate,
   slashes through all,
making us wake up
   to a nightmare.
